After 10 years of research and market analysis, Isetan opened its first store in Kuala Lumpur at Lot10 Shopping Complex in October 1990, Suria KLCC in May 1998, The Gardens, Mid Valley City in September 2007 and followed by 1 Utama in April 2012. Having its headquarters in Shinjuku-Tokyo, Isetan’s history spans over a century. Today, Isetan is a leading corporate group in Japan’s retailing industry. Isetan’s departmental stores are domestically and internationally renowned for high quality that ranks top amongst Japan’s top retailers. Isetan first opened its overseas branches in early 1970s and was among the first Japanese retail groups to enter the Asian market. The first store was opened in Singapore.

In addition to the original operations in Singapore, Isetan has also established its operations in Malaysia, Thailand and China.

Isetan’s goal is to create a “total lifestyle” that consists of all sorts of service; updated information and diverse culture. Isetan Kuala Lumpur is widely regarded as a fashion store. Isetan offers “value for money” quality and also develops original merchandise which cater to the increasing sophisticated customers’ lifestyles. The labels created include CULTIVATION, COMMUNIQUE, CICADA and CACHET, which offer a wide range of ladies executive apparels; CRESCENDO which offers elegant ladies wear; and TOTAL WOMEN which caters to larger sized women. ISETAN SHOTEN carries an array of fashion accessories; while ASTIN, CITY SHOES and LIL’ GLAMOUR PARLOUR cater to the growing needs of children. The latest additions to Isetan’s private labels are MEN’S MONO and MR MILLER; both focus on stylish and functional men’s wear. As of 2011, Isetan has also broken into the Café scene by opening CAFFÉ GINO, a renowned Japanese gourmet coffee café which offers rare beans and blends sourced from around the world.

Isetan’s “customer first” guiding principal is embodied in all aspects of their services. In 1990, the I-Club was introduced- Isetan’s exclusive card member service center for all Isetan Member Club (IMC) Cardholders; sharing the latest happenings and events in Isetan. In 2012, the i-Kids Club was formed to help enhance the development and growth of children through fun activities and workshops. This Club is exclusively for kids between the age of 6 months to 12 years.

At the same time, Isetan is also a supporter of charities and foundations. In 2010, Isetan Kuala Lumpur celebrated its 20th year in Malaysia and it was also then that a collaboration with the WWF organization was formed. Isetan is very grateful to be given the opportunity to be a part of Malaysia’s charity scene.
